This is a very special time of the year and i think that everyone, no matter what race you are should find a way to celebrate, devote extra time to learn more about black history, and to recognize it's importance.
Why is it important?
It is a time where the accomplishments of black heroes and heroines are remembered. Any one who risks their life or has the courage to have a voice for those who can't or won't use their own to say what needs to be said, deserves at least a little thought and mention. These brave individuals live on through our remembrance, talk of them, and continued respect of them. Let them live on through each one of us. Their message should never die. This is a time for the reality of past and current struggles to be brought to the surface. We then can see how far we have come and how far we still have yet to go, which is an important step to getting there. Some people have only a negative view of the African-American race, this month can help that narrow-mindedness to develop into a more positive perspective on a race that very much deserves it. But the first step is to actually take time to celebrate!
How can you celebrate and learn more?
I visited a wonderful website dedicated to Black History. I urge everyone else to take a look at http://www.biography.com/blackhistory/. I even deemed it worthy of a bookmark! It's like taking a virtual tour. There are video clips, fun quizzes, discussion forums, time lines, and basically everything you need to broaden your mind on black history.
Another way to celebrate if you have the means, is to visit a museum. You can check your local newspaper for listings to see if a museum near you is displaying special exhibits themed for Black History. There are even museums that are exclusively for black history such as the Tubman African-American Museum in Macon, GA.
You can visit a national historic site like the birthplace of Martin Luther King. This site is located on 501 Auburn Avenue, in Atlanta, Georgia. Don't forget to register first for the tour at the National Park Service Visitor Center upon arrival. It is a first come, first serve basis to take advantage of this opportunity. Did i mention that admission and parking is free? More information can be found at http://www.nps.gov/malu/planyourvisit/things2know.htm .
Or Maybe Congo Square in New Orleans is a little bit closer to you? This location today is a home to performance art productions that aim to highlight the accomplishments of black culture ,was once a place slaves were sold and bought. It's refreshing to see how it serves a much improved purpose now.
Heading up further north....
In Williamsburg, Virginia at Carter's Grove you get the chance to "go back in time" and witness a reenactment of an 18th century setting with tour guides that are costumed to compliment the time. I wish i lived close enough to go. Oh well at least i can give people who may live near an idea for a fun little field trip.
Well that's all I have for today, but best believe i have many more Black History blogs coming.
Remember...
Instead of just wishing your friends Happy Black History month, go one step further and invite them along with you to make it memorable. And I'm not just saying that to everyone else and applying that goal to myself as well.

Yep, Black History does seem to be the theme on alot of blogs I come across. That's a good deal. I usually end up reading about something that interest me, some things I never knew.
Happy Valentines Day, Nora. Enjoy.
